I've been busy...making blood that is! Now I'm not one to take kindly to the sight of blood...oh no...the very thought of it makes me turn green.

I remember very clearly when it was my youngest daughter's turn to load the dishwasher. It was December 1988 - she was 12. As she took the plates to the dishwasher, she slipped on water that had dripped from them and dropped the lot, putting her arms out to stop herself from falling, only the very worse thing happened!
Her arm fell onto the cutlery rack with all of the knives and forks facing upwards.....yes...you guessed it.....oh myyy....when she looked down, there was a 6 inch serated edged knife in her arm! My husband and I were upstairs getting ready to go to the student's evening (who was staying with us) and when we heard her screams....we rushed down the stairs.
It's making my palms sweat now just reliving the scene! My husband dealt with her and shouted for a towel...the only clean one in the cupboard at that time was red!! He wrapped it around her arm and his immediate thought was not to take the knife out. He gave her a blessing. (We are LDS and that it is our belief to bless one when they are sick). The blessing said that there would be no damage to her arm!
I called an ambulance.... I was jumping around the room with horror, trying to compose myself as the lady on the other end of the phone tried to give me instructions as to what to do. I travelled in the ambulance with her to the hospital and my husband went in the car. She was a specticle for all to see. She was whisked off for an x-ray straight away, then left on the 'trolley' waiting for the results. She looked so angelic in her white gown and there were many student doctors who came to see her arm. The x-ray guy told her that he had only ever seen one thing worse than that and that was a man with a fish hook in his head after swinging his rod out to catch fish!
She had to have surgery to remove the knife and the surgeon happened to be the father of one of the boys in her class at school! The surgeon told us that she was very lucky. The knife avoided any bones, veins or tendons! We knew it wasn't 'luck.'
The moral of the story is....don't place your knives and forks upwards and always wear a hat when fishing!
It got me thinking whilst I was making the fake 'blood', that it would be a good idea to find out what blood type we are. We never know when we might need some.
Take Drac....he doesn't mind what type he has! LOL. So long as it's red!

Have a heart Dracula!
Here are the little glass jars filled with fake blood. I made labels to go on them with different blood types.

The recipe calls for golden syrup, red food colouring and a little water to thin it. First I scooped two big tablespoons of gs into an airtight jar with a lid. I then added about 1 teaspoon of red food colouring (makes it dark). Then I stirred it together, shook it (with the lid on!) and added a little water. Voila! I now have my samples to display in my blood bank!

Have yourselves a wicked weekend.

Eeeek! Your poor DD, what a horrifying story. My son was the worse for having accidents, and then he said he wanted to be a stuntman!!!
