The following pumpkins were made at one of our church activities http://lds.org a few years ago.
This pumpkin is a battery operated one and makes a nice glow.
I made this - and more, jars which hold a tealight, by wrapping a gauze bandage around the outside of a clean jam jar. I secured it with safety pins and stained the gauze with an ink pad. *Be careful* not to have fabric near the top of the jar where it can be caught alight.
Last year, I attended a spOOktastic house at Halloween and I took photos of this ghastly character. I didn't use flash here, as the picture often doesn't turn out clear. Whilst a little blurred, it actually doesn't show up in this photo but then it gives the impression of movement.
The house was well lit with candles and flickering lighting.
These candlesticks dripping with 'blood' can be seen here at http://www.marthastewart.com/photogallery/terrifying-tabletop-ideas-#slide_5 with instructions on how to make them.

Even the moon gives an eerie glow.

Have fun with your preparations. Please do let me know how you are all getting on. I would love to see/hear all about your creations.
