Back to the 50s!

I said that I would post more pics of my KWA days with my friends in a previous post and as I am true to my word....here is one that I hosted a while ago. Get your poodle skirts on and get ready to hand jive.....we're going back to the 50's!!

I hung single 45rpm vinyl records from the rafters in my conservatory ...remember those?! I bought American Diner placemats in Matalan, 50's plates from Partyrama.com and ice cream cone bubbles from Tesco.
I made each of us a pink poodle skirt from circular pink table cloths that I bought from a local charity shop and I cut out the felt poodles from a pair of thick feltlike winter trousers that I had. Also I made the petticoat with netting to make them flared. The carrier bags I bought from a £1 store and the matching boxes I happened to find in Cornwall whilst on holiday there. They contain little gifts. I also made the neckerchiefs from spotted fabric I bought in C & H Fabrics.
A friend of mine does party balloons for occasions and she got me a pink Cadillac and made the themed group of balloons as a commission.

In case you don't know who is who, Pam is on the left and Joan on the right. I have known Joan for 51 years now. Pam is a friend of Joan's from secondary school. Smoothies were provided for the welcome drink.

This is Rita. Rita is Joan's cousin and I have known her for as long.

I feel a song coming on....LOL....'Pink Cadillac'.

We had cocktails....non alcoholic.

Then the fun began....all dressed up.

Born to handjive!!

Joan - full circle.

Always havin' a larf!

Time for lunch....burger and fries...

Apple pie and ice cream and Knickerbocker Glory for dessert.

Some bubbleicious fun.

I love these girls sooo much.

The only thing I forgot to buy was ...... pink bubblegum!!! Soooo....we ....I...decided we should all go out to buy some from Woolworth - as it was still open at the time.

Girls on Tour!

We had such a laugh. Some peeps even thought we were celebrities or promoting something. One guy ran up to us with his camera and asked another to take a photo of himself with us! LOL.
We popped in to see a friend of mine in the card shop as she has heard of our days together and so I took them to meet her.

Back home for some music and to blow some bubbles with our gum!

It's been a while since we blew bubbles.

Yayyyy.

One last photo before we leave you. This is my signature one - of shoes - or sometimes glasses chinking together.

I hope you have enjoyed your step back in time. Be sure to look out for another KWA day coming to a screen near you soon!

Toots for now.

Day of rest!

I took part in Julia's WOYWW for the first time last Wednesday and it was a real marathon to try and visit over 120 blogs in just one day. Phew! I'm feeling rather overwhelmed with the amount of response that I received myself. I got 40 visits and lovely comments from ladies that I have never met before, so for all of you, I thank you for making the time and effort.

It seems that I have been sooo busy since then and after a VERY busy weekend - including a visit to London and a 40th birthday party to attend, I am feeling rather exhausted! After getting up at 3.30 am and then getting to bed at 11.30pm last night, I'm really glad that today is a day of rest for me....after my usual Sunday at church. I came home and chilled a while before cooking dinner. We usually enjoy a roast dinner....except it's not gonna be a roast today but Lasagne a la Tesco!! Gotta reserve my energy for Wednesday!! LOL.

Have a Super Sabbath yourselves.

WOYWW - 1st time post!

to my blog. For some of you, it may be your first time visiting my blog. For all of you, it will be the first time for WOYW .

It's time for a nosey.

I'm feeling a bit chuffed today. I have added 'LinkWithin' to my blog which I have been wanting to do but never got around to it. I love to learn new things.

There.....that's my ceiling. Tidy isn't it?! LOL. Well now, don't you go copying my idea....I do have it copyrighted you know!

Do you really think I am going to embarass myself and show you my mile high pile of accumulated dust?!

Well, in my own defence, I am starting my Halloween preparations rather early and am growing my own cobwebs! There! Homegrown cobwebs....much nicer than the synthetic type!
Ok...here it is in all it's glory!!

Ohh...the photo didn't turn out too good! LOL. So, in front of my desk is the window.

To the right of the desk is my computer and floor to ceiling shelving which holds stacks of photos (just a small collection here!) and my interior design books that I collected when I did my ID college course 12 years ago.

To the left of the desk, I have my spider's web on the wall!

On the wall behind me is my clock and some wire frame cubed shelving.

I spend more time in the conservatory which is bathed in light and I use the table there. Here, I am using another Webster's Page in prep for a layout of my eldest granddaughter Yasmin.

So, there you have it. If that was too much for you to bear...

I'm off for a hot chocolate and then my very first WOYWW blog marathon.

Thank you all for calling by. Come again won't you? Now go visit Julia's blog - http://stamping-ground.blogspot.com/ for a list of other WOYWW bloggers.

Toots for now.

Dim the lights!

What has happened to Spring?! Who dimmed the lights?! It was soo warm, bright and sunny this time last week and now - it's cold, wet and windy!
Well, I was out and about at the Bank Holiday weekend and it seems that the rain has been bringing out all of those beautiful plants and blossoms. What a picture. Here are some of my favourite colours that might brighten your days until the sun comes out again.
Then I met this guy on my travels and he was very obliging and allowed me to get up close.
When he flew off, I noticed after viewing my photos, that I got him in mid flight with his wings spread out. I shall be finding a place for him this Halloween in my preparations!
Speaking of dimming the lights....American Idol last week had me wondering if my favourite contestant - Crystal would be knocked out! I was hoping that American voters weren't going to knock her out due to a not-so-popular performance. Phew! She got through and I am hoping that she will be the winner for 2010! Who is your favourite?
Toots for now and thank you for visiting my blog.

Happy May Day!

May Day never comes around without me having a moment of association! It takes me back to my primary school days when we danced around a maypole!

A wonderful way to celebrate May Day you may think. However, for me, it conjures up memories of my lack of co-ordination and being upset that I messed up when it came to weaving the 'spider's web'!! Ugh!

I think the teacher may have gotten mad with me as I seem to remember that every Sunday evening for some time - (maybe possibly rehearsing the maypole dance on Monday mornings), I used to get a tummy ache so I didn't have to go to school. My mum soon sussed something was wrong and eventually had to go to the school to sort things out!

I have an uncomfortable feeling around that event. However, it also held happy memories as I did enjoy watching others - more than dancing. Maybe that's where I first became fascinated in spiders!!

Happy May Day to you and Happy National Scrapbooking Day.
