I've been doing a lot of crying, kicking and screaming lately! Huh! Fancy that...a grown woman, still making a scene because she doesn't get what she wants!! Well, I don't think it's too much to ask that I have a full working pc and access to the internet in these modern days. I miss my music. I listen to it during the evenings whilst reading up on your blogs.
It has now been over 3 weeks without my precious computer and I am finding myself getting more frustrated as each day passes. It all happened when I had a friend here who I was helping with her dad's 60th scrapbook album. I went to print something for her and my pc screen was blank and black! I knew something would be seriously wrong as I was finding more and more little things were gradually changing. Like for instance, on my blog, there has not been the little icons at the top of the posting page, so I guess where they are and have learned to work a blank tool bar! Same goes for my smiley drop down menu for my emails, it is just a highlighted blue drop down bar but no faces. I know exactly where each of them are and my 10 yr old grandson is amazed when he sees I can put the appropriate one alongside my emails. LOL.
PC World had a look at my pc to diagnose any serious illness but only prescribed a new tower. After a shakey beginning, with no confidence in their 'booking in' procedure and the customer advisor not even knowing how to turn the pc on - and then she didn't have the plug in!!! I began to lose faith in their surgery skills. It was reported that the problem wasn't the power unit, nor the graphics card! I was hoping it wouldn't be the hard drive. The 'technician' said it might be the motherboard and vertually told me he couldn't spare the time to check it all, a new one would be the better option!
I took my baby home, crying en route and sought a 2nd opinion. The little local pc shop has come to my aid before - several years ago and I asked for a quote for a new tower. A lot of money but I need a new one for sure. After I received the quote, I admitted my pc to their care and have been waiting eversince. It came back home on Saturday for a few hours, only to find out that the backlight in my monitor was at fault!! I had to have a new one! They only had a choice of 2 in store and I had to have one there and then to test the pc. I chose the widescreen which was the biggest screen - 19" but I HATE widescreen. There was a problem with installing AOL and other little niggles, so, back it went due to more configuration needed.
After more tests at the surgery, it has been diagnosed that my modem is at fault! "You're havin' a larf", I said. The bill has now risen 2 fold. I could have bought a whole new package for the price.
So I called AOL - only for them to tell me that my contract for the package I had with them 'ran out' in January this year! So why the heck could they not inform me! I have overpaid by £63 and if I hadn't called them re: a new modem, I would still be paying the same amount. So this lovely lady tells me I get a reduced monthly bill now and I don't have to pay for the phone which was £5.49 per month. Yayyy....at least I am better off by £10.50 per month. That's good news.
So, here I am, waiting for my new router to arrive and hoping that it won't be too long before I can post photos, listen to my music and get surfing on my own pc. Say a little prayer for me will you? I'll try to be good today and not throw any tantrums, honest!
Toots for now,
~G~

I so understand your frustration... I am a calm person on the whole... except if my PC or the internet play up... then I turn I just get crosser than a wet hen!!
It's incredibly frustrating. I totally sympathise..there but for the grace of god. The bad bit is of course, that we're dependent on others to diagnose AND fix..and that makes us vulnerable and defensive!! AND they don't understand how badly you NEED it to be done NOW. Do they?!!! Good luck gal!
Feel your frustration, hope everything is sorted soon :)
its so annoying when you cant get online. I hope you get your pc back & working soon.
xx
Oh I feel your pain. OH's backlight went on his lappy and he has been having to nick my monitor to plug into it while he works at home as all the accountant stuff is on the lappy. Can't afford to go buy a new one so I'm stuck pacing a groove in the carpet behind him while my poor pc has no monitor.
Upside is he has promised to buy me a slimline monitor to free up more space on my new desk so I can't complain to loudly. ;)
My goodness, can I identify with this! As lots of household appliances seem to be dying off al in one go, I dread anything happening to my beloved Mac! You have all my sympathies in retrospect. :)
